T’neeya’s new project is about love

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is here: T’neeya dropped a new project: ‘In Her Feelings’. Three beautifully-balanced, soul-touching songs that warms our hearts and fits the journey that this bombshell is on; one that focusses on love and self-development. I met up with T’neeya in Accra to talk about her new music.

The girl behind the music

T’neeya’s musical journey is somehow classic. She attended an all-girls boarding school in Bamenda (Cameroon). At home she was writing songs to Nollywood movies “whenever I didn’t like the song that came with the scene I would write my own version ”. She sang in school and got known for her singing after her first gig where both the boys and girls gathered. “I had to sing for over 1000 kids. Most people knew me before that, but after that performance I gained popularity. All of a sudden I was the girl that could sing”. The performance changed her school life “I had my own choir at 16, wrote the songs for it and selected the girls that could join us.”

From Cameroon she moved to Berlin to study fashion “But, I was that one girl with the headphones on. Music was everywhere”. It’s no surprise that she didn’t finish her degree “I wanted to pursue a career in music. I went to the States, Panama, London and Accra to make music.” After a few visits to Accra she felt the need to stay longer in 2017 “during my visits I came across interesting people and it felt good. We all know the creativity in Ghana is insane and I felt it was the place I needed to be for my music”.

Passion is a keyword

If people ask me for advice on what to do, there is not much I can say besides telling them they should do something they are passionate about. Purpose and passion are important”. Those who believe music is her true passion - you’re interpreting her intentions too simply. Music is merely a medium for having a conversation with people which is her true passion. T’neeya loves to connect with people: “I’m very passionate about that and I’m great I have different languages that help me in doing so”. She can do so by writing music, by recording a song in the studio or by performing on a stage. This passion didn’t come from far “I think my parents gave it to me. My mother was a teacher, she always found creative ways to teach us something. My dad was an engineer and consultant…They were always talking to people and helping them.”

T’neeya found her lane, this project is an expression of that. “Five years ago I wasn’t where I am today” she tells me. “Everything is constantly changing and growing. It all builds character to who you are, all the positives and negatives”. T found her lane by listening to herself, by meditating and by looking into the mirror “ask yourself the right questions”. That’s also how she drops her music, little by little so that we are getting to know her, project by project.

The end goal is to make people feel something, to make them feel better about themselves. Enlighten them about what they should be doing.

She loves love

This project is about love “because I love love oh!” For the project she worked with Re.decay, a producer duo from Germany and Necktunez “Things weren’t calculated. We just wanted to do something different and decided to work on it together”. Because the project is so intimate it isn’t T’s first goal to shoot up the charts, but to make a statement and shoot up the charts with that statement.
